Palm Beach is a weird and wonderful idea that was hatched at the beginning of 2004. The number of palms currently stands at 70, and in addition to the beach volleyball courts behind the dunes, there is also a beach volleyball court on the beach and one out in the water, as well as two beach handball courts. The beach is 400 metres long and has Blue Flag status.

The locals from Frederikshavn have never been afraid of embarking on something adventurous and unusual, and we have plenty of beach - no less than a total of 25 km of white sandy beaches north of the town.
So why not do something different at one of these beaches?
A weird and wonderful idea
When the idea of Palm Beach took form in 2004, the local politicians were quick to give their approval to the project.
The first 30 palms were located with exotic seaweed parasols and a beach volleyball court was established. Palm Beach was an immediate hit with both the press and thousands of happy guests alike.

A sun lounger for DKK 20 - just like in the supermarketThe following year the original palms were supplemented with 30 new and exotic palms to provide a holiday atmosphere and cooling shade from June to midd September.
The final touch came in the form of sunbeds which are available for DKK 20 - in exactly the same way as you can get a shopping trolley in the supermarket. Four new beach volleyball courts were also established.

Beach volleyball, beach handball and beach partyToday the number of palm trees has reached 70, and in addition to the beach volleyball courts behind the dunes, there is also a beach volleyball court on the beach, a volleyball court in the water, as well as two beach handball courts.
Have a party under the palms
In the middle of the beach there is an outdoor kitchen in a tropical beach bar making the holding of a small party an attractive proposition.
Private parties and social gatherings are allowed provided that you show consideration to the other beach guests. Bigger events such as concerts and tournaments, etc., require permission.

Blue Flag BeachThe beach itself is around 400 metres long and 30-50 metres wide. It is ideal for children and has Blue Flag status, which means that the water quality and toilet facilities around the beach are tip-top. The ice-cream parlour on the way down to the beach has also been tested and been awarded the title of Denmark's cheapest!

Undisturbed sunbathingDunes and hollows ensure that there is good shelter from the wind and enough space for undisturbed sunbathing. If the tropical atmosphere gets too much, there are normal North Jutland sandy beaches immediately north and south of the palm beach.

LifeguardIn 2007 a lifeguard tower was built on the beach, and for 5 weeks from the 1st of July coastal lifeguards are present to ensure greater safety for bathers. This initiative is only on a trial basis, but we hope that it will also be implemented on other beaches.

Parking and disabled access There are good opportunities to park very close to the beach, and at the southern end of Palm Beach there is direct access for wheelchair users. This is also the case on the beach north of Rønnerhavnen and at Bratten Strand 9 km north of Frederikshavn.
From the Canary IslandsThe Cinese Windmill Palms are 3-4 metres high, and can grow to a height of around 10 metres. The leaves are fan-shaped. The Chinese Windmill Palm's natural habitat is central and southern China. The Date Palms are also 3-4 metres high, but can grow to a height of about 20 metres. The leaves can be 5 metres long and 1 metre wide. The fruit is not edible. The palms originate from the Canary Islands.
Hirsholmene
7 km northeast of Frederikshavn lie the group of islands called Hirsholmene, which today make up a nature reserve. The group of islands consists of the islands Græsholm and Hirsholm, as well as several small islets and reefs.
In the northern Kattegat - and thus also Hirsholmene - some of northern Europe's most important overwintering areas for sea ducks are found. Hirsholmene are also an important breeding area for waterfowl.
The island can easily be seen from Palm Beach.
