Attractions in and around Sindal

The countryside around Sindal is a mixture of hills and dales, many of which contain small peaceful villages.

The childhood house of Martinus in Sindal

Sindal prides its self on its unique natural beauty, and its many interesting fountains and sculptures. Enjoy the views from the many vantage points or why not visit one of the small cosy villages in the countryside.

Apart from the natural beauty Sindal also has a lot of interesting historical monuments such Sindal Mill, that dates back to before 1872, where it was moved from its original place in Fjeldsted. The Mill is the oldest commercial building in Sindal. It is build in brick and originally consisted of two grinders and a roller. The Mill is newly restored.

Another interesting place to visit is the childhood house of Martinus. The writer and philosopher Martinus is known worldwide for his work: "The third will". The house appears like the time of his birth in 1890.

Local churches in and around Sindal

Why not visit the many local churches in and around Sindal. There are churches worth visiting in villages such as Astrup, Ugilt, Lendum, Hørmested and Tolne, not to mention the two churches in Sindal.

- Sindal Church which was build in 1910 and has a beautiful fresco painting by Elof Risebye in the choir.

And the old church of Sindal which is situated on a hill top in the eastern outskirts of Slotved Forrest. The oldest part of the church can be dated back to the time of Valdemar, i.e. 1100.

The alterpiece is a simple work of renaissance, however it was made by the famous Skagen-painter Michael Anker. Michael Anker copied the painting "The Crucifixion" by the Spanish painter Velasquez.

The elder of the two bells was made by the founder Peder Lavridsen in 1566. The ancient dike made of granite boulders is still standing towards north and south - just like back then!

The Jubilee Fountain

One of the many beautiful and interesting fountains in Sindal is the Jubilee Fountain which the local artist Niels Chr. Bach created and donated for the towns 125 year jubilee in 1996. The fountain depicts Sindal as a sunny dale in Northern Jutland, nestled between sea and nature.
