Hirtshals awaits with wild nature and good experiences
In Vendsyssel you will find the fishing town of Hirtshals, where the harbor is one of the most important professions. Hirtshals has both a fishing port and a ferry port, where there are connections to Norway and the Faroe Islands, among others. In addition to the harbor, Hirtshals has much more to offer.
The nature in Hirtshals, Tversted and surroundings is absolutely fantastic and an obvious destination if you want to experience the wild nature by the North Sea. There are many different hiking, biking and mountain biking routes in the area at all levels. Some of the country's longest routes also go through Hirtshals and it is an obvious place to start the journey. The local walking and cycling routes also offer unique experiences. For example, both Tornby and Tversted Klitplantage offer challenging mountain bike routes. Lilleheden Klitplantage, Skallerup Indlandsklitter and Tversted Klitplantage offer beautiful hiking routes and in the areas you can also find riding trails.
In Hirtshals, Tversted and Lønstrup there are many beautiful beaches, which are both child-friendly and perfect for windsurfing, SUP and other exciting water sports activities. At Tversted Strand is Det Grå Ishus (the gray ice house), which has several times won the award for Denmark's best ice house. The ice from the gray ice house can be enjoyed on the well-visited Tversted Beach. If you are lucky, you can also find amber on the beaches in the autumn and winter.
From the child-friendly beach, Hirtshals landmark, Hirtshals Lighthouse, can be seen. Hirtshals Lighthouse is located 22 meters above sea level and it is possible to go up the stairs and enjoy the beautiful view of Hirtshals town and Skagerak.
Right next to Hirtshals Lighthouse you will find the Bunker Museum Hirtshals 10th battery, where it is possible to hear about the importance that Hirtshals had in World War II. During the summer, it is possible to get a tour of the Bunker Museum Hirtshals 10th battery and get very close to the bunkers.
In Hirtshals, Tversted and Lønstrup, it is possible to practice many different kinds of sports activities - both on land and in water. Hirtshals is certainly well suited for angling in the North Sea, from the pier or the beach edge dressed in waders. Uggerby Å offers a fantastic canoe trip, which can take from a few hours to a multi-day trip with accommodation in a shelter along the way. Within a 20 kilometer distance you will find several golf courses where you can new many hours of play.
